Founder and President of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has made a strong case for the return of André Ayew to the Black Stars squad as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ayew, 36, has been absent from the national team since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, but has recently been back in club action with NAC Breda after joining the Dutch side in January.
Despite their campaign ending in relegation from the Eredivisie, the veteran forward’s international future has come back into focus.
Speaking on GTV on Thursday, Dr. Tetteh argued that Ayew’s experience, leadership and professionalism remain vital as the Black Stars continue their squad transition.
He stressed that the former captain still possesses the hunger and influence needed at the highest level.
“We are privileged to have many football icons. Even before Abedi Pele, we had people who played very well for Ghana, the likes of Baba Yara, Polo, and others. Today, I look at this money, and I was even talking to a Sheikh that we should get Dede Ayew. I think I’m campaigning for him to join the Black Stars team,” he said.
“The boy plays with his might. In fact, he carries his father’s spirit. Dede Ayew is a motivator. Remember, he led the Under-20s in Egypt in 2009 when they won. He is very experienced, and by the grace of God, he’s still doing very well. We should give him the chance,” Lawrence Tetteh added.
Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to announce a provisional squad ahead of the final selection set for June 1.
Ghana will compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Group I alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
