Godwin Tamakloe, lawyer for the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency, says his client is no longer worried about her detractors but is focused on retaining the seat for the NDC in the November polls. “The only thing my client thinks about now is the victory we had on Friday, and she is focused on winning…Her eyes are very focused on the prize ahead of her,” he added.
The candidate, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, who is the daughter of NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings, has faced stiff opposition from some disgruntled members of the party who wanted her stripped of her parliamentary bid. They argue that Dr. Zanetor, is not a registered voter in Ghana hence does not qualify to be a parliamentary candidate. They thus went to court to have her stripped of her candidature for a re-run of the primary. But the Accra High court dismissed the case on Friday. Speaking on Eyewitness News, Dr. Zanetor’s lawyer explained that although they were initially worried about losing the case, they graciously triumphed over it. “We were worried but thankfully the court realized that the case was brought in bad faith; so that worry has been taken away.”
He said what is now left before them is winning the poll which has been for November this year. “You can never get everybody supporting you, what is important is that, you demonstrate good faith to all and I can tell you my client has so far demonstrated that she is the person who is so focused and has her eyes on the seat.” Mr. Tamakloe argued that Dr. Zanetor “conducted one of the cleanest campaigns” in the constituency saying that “whereas people were making all spurious allegations all over, she kept her eyes on it, she was meeting the people; constituency executives, branch executives among others and won.”
