A Kenyan law lecturer, Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, has challenged Africans to embrace who they are in order to achieve economic growth and total liberation from the Western world.
According to him, the myriad challenges facing the African continent is as a result of the continuous reliance for assistance from “our former colonial masters”.
He said it is about time African’s recognised that they are Africans and begin to behave as such and break the artificial boundaries that have been left behind by their colonial masters.
Speaking on Citi FM ahead of the P.A.V Ansah Memorial Foundation Forum, Friday, Prof. Lumumba noted that, “Africa can only realise her potential if we only recognise that the boundaries bequeathed to us by the colonialists are artificial. And the sooner we begin to engage as one people the safer we are.”
Prof. Lumumba would be speaking on the theme, “Good governance, whither Africa?”
“Africa will only realise her potential if the former French colonies recognise that they are not French and do not behave as if they are, if the former British colonies recognise that they are Africans and the former Portuguese colonies recognise that they are Africans and begin to behave like they are Africans,” he said.
Expressing his dismay over the various limits and conventions that the African has placed on themselves as a result of the artificial boundaries, Prof. Lumumba said, “when I travel from Nairobi and I arrived at the Kotoka Airport and I’m asked for a passport I get annoyed… the American will fly from Boston to Los Angeles, one currency, no passport after six hours.
“I travel from Nairobi to Uganda after 30 minutes I am confronted with the Ugandan shilling…and a different language and African’s do not recognise this.”
