The host of Highlife Time on Accra100.5FM, Eric Owusu Gyimah (Oyokodehye Kofi) and his foundation ‘Kog Kriationz Network’, working in collaboration with Eye Foundation of America, have organised free eye surgeries for hundreds of people with various eye problems across the country.

The initiative forms part of Kog Kriationz’s activities of giving back to society.

The mass surgery exercise carried out from May to September 2018 was dubbed: Avoidable Blindness Elimination Project (ABEP).

The beneficiary districts included Adentan, Madina La-Nkwantanan and Shai Osudoku, all in the Greater Accra Region; Nandom, Lawra, Jirapa, Nadowli, Wa Central and Wa West in the Upper West Region; and Bole and Damango in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Mr Gyimah told ClassFMonline.com that: “Over 4,918 people benefited from the free eye screening exercise while 333 with cataract, pterygium, squint and ptosis-related cases have also undergone free surgeries with 2,800 drops and 244 eyeglasses given out.”

He added that the NGO’s pre-occupation has been to reach out to the vulnerable who have eye-related problems by way of creating awareness, providing free eye screening and surgeries as well as giving free eye drops and glasses to affected people.
