Inaki Williams found the back of the net for the third consecutive time for Athletic Bilbao as they drew 2-2 with Getafe in the seventh round of matches in the ongoing La Liga season.
At the Estadio San Mamés, Bilbao were hoping to get their third win in a row but had to settle for a draw as Getafe fought back in the final minutes of the game.
33-year-old defender Yuri Berchiche shot the home side into the lead in the sixth minute to pave the way for a pulsating encounter but Ohian Sancet headed for an early shower after a reckless tackle to hand Bilbao a major setback in the game.
After the break, Getafe capitalised on the numerical advantage to get the equaliser thanks to Gaston Alvarez’s header from a well-taken corner in the 51st minute.
Inaki Williams however, rose to the occasion on the 62nd-minute mark to land the ball into the bottom left corner through a great effort from the edge of the box to make it 2-1.
Ernesto Valverde’s side unfortunately failed to hold on to the lead as Getafe restored parity through Juan Latasa’s goal in the 83rd minute.
Bilbao are now third on the log with 14 points only behind Girona, Real Madrid and Barcelona after seven matches.
Meanwhile, Williams’ goal means he has now contributed to six goals in seven matches scoring four and assisting twice. His remarkable performance has already gained recognition having been nominated for the La Liga Player of The Month for September.
