The chief of Gomoah Osei Krom in the Central Region has taken a decisive step by preventing residents from engaging in the ongoing District Assembly elections. This action comes as a result of the chief’s frustration with the apparent lack of development in their township, despite numerous letters written to both the District and Regional authorities, yielding no response.
Reports from Angel News monitored by Mubarak Yakubu indicate that both the chief and residents have collectively chosen to abstain from voting. Their decision is rooted in the longstanding issue of being consistently denied development support whenever they approach Agona West, where they traditionally cast their votes.
The chief and residents assert that Agona West has explicitly discouraged them from seeking assistance for developmental concerns, citing that their township falls under Gomoah Central. Consequently, they have resolved not to participate in the election until clarity is provided by the government regarding their designated District and voting eligibility.
They emphasize the dire state of their community, pointing out particularly inadequate roads and a deteriorating school building. The residents stress that their abstention from voting is a form of protest, intending to draw attention to their plea for development.
The reporter concludes by highlighting the severity of the situation, noting that if the issues persist, the residents are prepared to extend their abstention to the general elections, underscoring the urgency for resolution and development in Gomoah Osei Krom.
