Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has been ruled out of the team’s trip to Luanda for their reverse fixture against Angola on Monday in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The 33-year-old will not travel with the squad due to a knee injury he sustained on his way to the dressing room after Ghana’s victory on Thursday against the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium.
According to the Ghana Football Association, the Nottingham Forest forward will fly back to England for further treatment which will make him miss back-to-back games for the Black Stars.
Ayew, who is currently, the nation’s most capped player was an unused substitute in Ghana’s game which saw Thomas Partey led the team as captain last Thursday.
Two starters from the game, Denis Odoi and Alexander Djiku will also not make it to Luanda due to injury while Salisu Mohammed remains a doubt for the clash on Monday.
Ghana are currently top of Group E with seven points, while their opponents Angola and Central African Republic are tied on points with four each.
Ghana will be hoping for another win away from home to be sure of a place in Ivory Coast next year.
