Two lawyers have clashed over an alleged dual citizenship of the Vice President of Ghana Dr. Mahmud Bawumia
Former Ambassador to India under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Lawyer Sam Pee Yalley has alleged that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia holds a British passport in addition to his Ghanaian one, in breach of the constitution.
However, this brought a misunderstanding between Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen and Lawyer Sam Pee Yalley.
Lawyer Sam Pee Yalley says records show that the vice President holds dual citizenship, and did not renounce the British one before he became vice President of Ghana in 2017 to present.
According to him, Dr Bawumia stated in many documents as the director of the international bank, that he was a British citizen, but there is no record of him having renounced it before 2017.
Speaking on Accra based radio staton Okay FM, Lawyer Sam Pee Yalley, is therefore calling for the initiation of legal processes against Bawumia just like it was done to James Gyakye Quayson.
“Now that the Supreme Court has decided that a person who holds dual citizenship cannot be a member of parliament, Bawumia’s record at the Bank of Ghana in London indicates that he is a British citizen. He was a British citizen way back in 2009 before ex-President Kufuor brought him to Ghana,” he is quoted to have said.
