Former President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the attack on some supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency on Thursday, 31 January 2019, describing it as an act carried out to make the all-die-be-die pronouncement of the leadership of the NPP in the past a reality.
Some macho men in NSC-branded t-shirts who are suspected to be members of a vigilante group attacked some voters at the Presby JHS polling station and fired at them. Some of the injured persons are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Addressing delegates of the NDC in the Adaklu Constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Volta Region, Mr Mahama wondered why after years of practising democracy, such an incident could happen in Ghana during a by-election.
He noted that the melee is a living reality of the all-die-be-die mantra of the leadership of the NPP.
Mr Mahama warned that, as a democratic party, the NDC would resist any attempt by the NPP government to subvert Ghana’s constitution as it happened in Thursday’s by-election.
“NPP is taking this power as a matter of life and death. They said it already, they said all-die-be-die and they are acting out and living the reality of the-all-die-be-die. I’m sure that this evening when you turn on your television you will see what happened at Ayawaso West,” he noted.
Mr Mahama, subsequently, announced that he would cut short his tour of the Volta Region and visit the victims of the shooting incident at the hospital in Accra.
For his part, the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Mr Kwame Agbodza expressed outrage at what happened in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
He said the NDC would resist any oppressor’s rule in the country by the NPP government.
