Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan says he is “completely devastated” with the death of Ivorian international Cheick Tiote.
“Completely devastated and saddened by the death of cheick tiote…why now Bro…Rest Well,” he mourned in a tweet.
Other Ghanaian internationals like Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien, Jonathan Mensah, and Christian Atsu have all tweeted in memory of the departed Ivorian.
Other footballers across Africa also paid their last respects to the defensive midfielder who died on Monday, 5 June, after collapsing during training in China.
The former Newcastle United midfielder died aged 30.
Born in the Ivory Coast, Tiote was part of the Ivorian squad that won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
He began his professional career in Belgium with Anderlecht in 2005 before moving to Dutch side FC Twente, where he made 86 appearances and won the Eredivisie in 2009-10 under manager Steve McLaren.
He joined Newcastle in 2010 for £3.5m where he played until he made a move to China for an undisclosed fee this season.
