Manchester United have agreed a stunning deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to reports emerging in Germany.
The Red Devils’ well-documented summer search for a high profile central midfielder has led to links with Southampton enforcer Morgan Schneiderlin, but it appears a move for the German has now been prioritised.
And German daily BILD has revealed that Schweinsteiger informed the Bavarians of his desire for a new challenge, citing United manager and former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal as a key factor in attracting him to England.
The 30-year-old has allegedly committed to a three-year deal worth around £7.5m and is on standby to fly to Manchester to complete his medical and other formalities.
BILD suggest that only a fee still needs to be agreed, with Bayern reportedly holding out for £15m for the World Cup winner.
Schweinsteiger has found himself down the midfield pecking order at the Allianz Arena in the last 12 months, with the likes of Xabi Alonso, David Alaba, Thiago Alcantara and even Phillip Lahm now more favoured by Pep Guardiola.
The German has been with the Bundesliga champions his entire career and has over 100 caps for his country.
