An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a pastor to 20 years in prison for rape.
The man, Vincent Tettey, about 40 years old, lived in a mission house at Domeabra, near Pokuase, with a colleague pastor.
According to Accra News’ court reporter Ama Brako Ampofo, Tettey had been defrocked by his church for alleged misconduct but the family of the victim accommodated him in the mission house they lived in.
A few months ago, the pastor and his wife decided to visit Kasoa, leaving their three children in the care of Tettey.
Taking advantage of the absence of the couple, Tettey called the pastor’s 13-year-old daughter and sent her on an errand. When the girl returned with the item, he dragged her into his room and forcibly had sex with her.
The girl narrated her ordeal to her parents after their return, who subsequently reported the matter to the police.
Pleading guilty to rape in court, Tettey blamed his actions on the devil and asked for clemency. However, the presiding judge, Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, on Friday February 17, sentenced him to a jail term of 20 years.
