Police in Tema have arrested four suspects in connection with dealing with marijuana at a location close to the Afariwaa Farms near Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
Tema Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Juliana Obeng, disclosed to Accra100.5FM’s breakfast show Ghana Yensom on Friday June 24 that police received a tip-off that two people were offloading cannabis into an uncompleted building in the area.
She said police officers in Ashaiman tracked the suspects in the Afariwaa Farms area and arrested the two – Malik Ofori, 35; and Richmond Oti, 27 – on Tuesday June 21 at 4am. They had in their possession 1,668 slabs of dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp in boxes, which had been packed in boxes marked as fresh yam from Ghana.
However, two others – Edward Mensah, 40; and Kwaku Bonsu, 43; who had just returned from the UK, emerged on Thursday June 23 and offered the police £1,900 to drop the case and free the suspects, promising to offer an additional GHS50,000 to the Tema Police if they were willing to meet them at Tema Community 3.
“But the police refused the offer and the four suspects are now in the custody of the police at the Ashaiman Police Divisional Command,” ASP Obeng added.
