A police officer, identified as Constable Prince Amoah has died in line of duty on Wednesday January 24, 2024.
According to reports, the deceased and other colleagues went on patrol at a galamsey site in Kwawu, a community in Enchi-Kwawu in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.
On their way back to the office, the bridge on the river broke and the police vehicle fell into the river.
Residents managed to rescue the police officers but Constable Prince Amoah was found died.
The other four policemen were rushed to Samraboi Government hospital for treatment. The body of the deceased has also been deposited at the same hospital morgue.
Some residents who spoke to Adom News on condition of anonymity said this is the second time a police vehicle from a galamsey site has fallen into the river.
They claim the police officers from Enchi District Police Command extort monies from the illegal miners.
Meanwhile, police has commenced investigations into the unfortunate incident.
