Three robbers have been shot dead by police in Weija.
They exchange fire with the police and tried carjacking a police van on patrol duties at Gbawe, Bortianor, Kokrobite and Kasoa on Thursday when they got gunned down.
Kwame Salsa, Jah Rule and Joe were on the most wanted list of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
Regional Police Commander, DCOP G. Alex Mensah told journalists at a news conference that the three killed suspects had been under surveillance for months in connection with some serious robberies, mostly carjacking.
“Items found on them include two locally manufactured pistols with nine rounds of BB cartridges, browning pistols with five rounds of nine MM ammunition, and five mobile phones and an iPad,” the Regional Police Commander said.
“We want to sound a strong warning to the criminals to better quit their nefarious activities or face the police squarely in our recent crime combat,” he warned.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu has warned the law will deal with any Ghanaian caught hiding behind social media to commit crimes.
“Those who hide behind the anonymity of social media to commit crimes such as fraud and related identity thefts should desist from such acts before the law catches up on them,” Mr Asante-Apeatu added.
