The Social Work department at Methodist University celebrated Easter festivities with the female inmates at Nsawam Prisons.
The head of the department, Madam Agnes Tei Muno, explained to Angel News’ Mubarak Yakubu that they joined the inmates to share the love of Christ with them during this Easter.
She emphasized their belief that the inmates are not condemned and that, as part of their social responsibility, they went to Nsawam to share what they have with them.
Madam Agnes stated that they were there to encourage the inmates, give them hope, and interact with them so that serving time in prison would not be the end of the world for them.
She expressed confidence that the inmates would become better people after serving their time.
“It is Easter festivities, so we are here to share the love of Christ with our sisters. As part of our social responsibility, we are here to share what we have so that they can experience some joy.”
“They are not condemned. As social workers, we are here to encourage them, give them hope, and interact with them. Even as they serve their time here, it is not the end of the world. Life goes on after prison, and they can go out as better individuals and make something of themselves.”
Madam Agnes also mentioned that the inmates are considered their sisters, and Methodist University is prepared to receive any inmate willing to further their education, with the aim of providing them with a better educational opportunity after their release.
“We are here to let them know that we love them, and our support continues even after they leave here. Our doors are always open, and they can contact us for any counsel or advice we can offer as social workers.”
The Social Work department at Methodist University donated toiletries, Yazz sanitary pads, Softcare sanitary pads, T-roll, and also dined together with the inmates.
They danced and enjoyed fufu, banku, and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Nsawam female inmates, senior prisons’ officer ASP Emmanuella Akeamensah thanked Methodist University and the Social Work department for their kind gesture.
She expressed surprise at receiving the donations from the school and explained that they were not expecting such generosity.
However, she conveyed the inmates’ gratitude for the donations.
