The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on pastors, imams, and all Ghanaians to join the party’s upcoming demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC).
Asiedu Nketia emphasized the need for nationwide participation to pressure the EC into addressing concerns raised about the voters’ register ahead of the 2024 elections.
He urged religious leaders and citizens who value democracy to actively participate in the protests for a transparent electoral process.
He explained that the demonstration aims to rectify errors in the voters’ register and ensure a smooth voting process, allowing Ghanaians to choose the right government.
Asiedu Nketia added that he expects members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), civil society groups, and those without political affiliations to join the protest.
He stated that Tuesday’s demonstration would serve as a call for the EC to correct mistakes and prevent chaos in the upcoming elections.
“The demonstration will help streamline the voting process so we can choose the government we want to lead us. It’s important to understand that supporters from different backgrounds, including NPP members, non-politicians, civil society groups, and pastors, must join because we all seek peace in these elections.”
He added, “If you want peace, anything that threatens the peace we currently enjoy should concern us, and we must work together to address it. This demonstration is focused on ensuring the election is transparent and preventing any chaos during this year’s election.”
Asiedu Nketia further explained that the demonstration is part of the solutions the EC could adopt to ensure a fair election.
He acknowledged that some may dismiss the protests as noise, but he insisted that they are doing what is right and necessary for peace in the elections.
