The Registrar General’s department overpaid an air-condition specialist by at least 10,000%, a copy of audited accounts seen by Joy News has revealed.
Butex Services was to be paid ¢2,734 but was paid ¢273,420, an excess of ¢270,686.
Some staff of Attorney General’s Department are before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for Parliament to respond to several audit queries ranging from wrongful payment and misapplication of funds as contained in the Auditor General’s report.
But in a departure from normal proceedings, the Committee decided to undertake the hearings in camera due to the sensitive nature of the judiciary.
Joy News parliamentary correspondent Elton John Brobbey explained that the Standing Orders of Parliament allows for in-camera hearings.
But a copy sighted by Joy News revealed that a contractor, Green Zone Construction Limited was also overpaid by 759%.
After some works at the regional office of the Registrar-General’s Department, Greenzone was paid more than ¢169,000. The value of his work according to the audited account was ¢22,250.
