Presidential staffer Samuel George Nartey is incensed about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) obsession for electoral reforms any time it is in opposition.
According to him, the NPP’s call for a new voters register exposes the insatiable quest for power at all cost in 2016.
Sam George made the comment while reacting to the opposition party’s intent to petition the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the presidents on the matter.
The campaign being led by its Former National Chairman of the party, Peter Mac Manu will also reach out to the British and French Prime Ministers, US President, Barrack Obama as well as the German chancellor, Angela Merkel.
This move, Mac Manu, maintained is to bring international pressure on the Mahama-led government and the Electoral Commission to replace the voters’ register ahead of the 2016 general elections.
But Sam George on Asempa FM likened the NPP’s quest for a new voters register to witchcraft.
He said the rebellion by the opposition party against EC is more than “the rebellion of Satan against God in the Garden of Eden”.
The presidential staffer could not fathom why the NPP have chosen to usurp the powers of the EC and begin an ECOWAS tour when in fact the electoral body has not ruled on their petition.
Sam George recalled how the NPP since 1992 has been the only party that has been the lead instigator of electoral reforms in Ghana and yet is not satisfied.
“The introduction of transparent ballot boxes, photo voters’ ID card and a biometric voter register in 2012, he said, have all been at the behest of the NPP so what at all do they want” he quizzed.
