Dr. Rashid Pelpuo from the Minority says they had planned not to join the State of the Nation Address until former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, convinced them otherwise.
During the State of the Nation Address, the Minority initially refused to attend, causing a standstill in the presentation.
However, in an interview on the floor of Parliament monitored by Voicefmonline.com Mubarak Yakubu, the Member of Parliament for Dr. Pelpuo stated that former President Mahama joined them at Job 600 to talk with them and persuade them to attend the SONA.
He mentioned that there are many pressing issues in the country that the current President has ignored.
He stressed that MPs are using their own money to buy school desks for pupils in their constituencies, which should not be the case.
Dr. Pelpuo stated that former President Mahama joined them to understand their reasons for boycotting the SONA and offered them key advice.
Regarding the boycott, Dr. Pelpuo mentioned that they also boycotted the event due to insults directed at them by the Bank of Ghana boss after the minority advised him to resign.
He criticized the BoG boss for insulting them and being irresponsible, yet failing to apologize.
He stated that their main aim was to draw attention to these issues, including the collapse of the economy, but the BoG boss has refused to resign.
“It has to do also with the BoG boss, who insulted us, who has been irresponsible, who has been inefficient and failed to do what he is supposed to be doing, we draw his attention to it, his refusal to apologize and to withdraw a statement and refusal to resign when he has to, after draining this economy. It is part of it all.”
