Ghanaian actress Emelia Brobbey has said she would welcome the opportunity to star in a Nigerian movie if the opportunity presents itself.
According to her, acting in movies beyond the shores of Ghana will not only propel her career but also give her international recognition.
“I’ll be excited to act in Nigeria because if you gain international recognition in addition to your national recognition, it is not only good for your career but helps you go far,” she said on Ayekoo Ayekoo on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, 23 May.
“Last year, I won Best Indigenous Actress at the City People Entertainment Awards in Nigeria, which excited me a lot. So I’ll be thrilled if I get the opportunity to act in Nigeria or any other country apart from Ghana.”
Talking about herself outside acting, the Kumasi-based actress debunked assertions that she is a snob, adding that no matter how nice she is, some people will have issues with her.
She explained: “Whatever you do as a person, people will always talk. The character I portray in movies is not how I’m in real life… They should get it that I only interpret scripts but I have my own character and life to live and I have loved ones and fans. When I meet three people, two might smile with me while one stands aside. I don’t need to attempt to smile with the one standing aside, but I open up to those who open up to me and you stay at your corner and avoid those who don’t want to come close. When you meet 10 people, three might like you, one of them might not even know you exist because he or she might not even be a movie fan. So inasmuch as I’m nice to people, you will get one or two who will say I’m a snob but people who know me can attest to the fact that I spend good time with my fans when I’m not busy.”
The award-winning actress has produced her own movie, Adanfo Bone (Bad Friend), which will be premiered on Thursday 25 May at the Silverbird cinemas at the Accra and West Hills malls.
The movie features Akrobeto, Lil Win, Nana Ama McBrown, Bishop Bernard Nyarko, Bill Asamoah, and a host of others from Kumawood.
