Highlife artiste, Akosua Agyapong, has urged entertainment bloggers to verify and crosscheck information made available to them before they publish same on the internet.
Reacting to the publication of a video in which a woman was giving dancehall artiste Shatta Wale and another a male friend, a head, Akosua Agyapong said bloggers need to be circumspect and professional in doing their job.
She accused some bloggers of secretly recording artistes or selling private videos of celebrities to other websites to enrich themselves without thinking of the effect such behaviour has on the victim.
Speaking on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM on Saturday, 23 June 2018, the Frema hit maker said God will deal with any blogger who does that.
“God will deal with any blogger who sells other people’s videos online, because there are a lot of things that they are doing. I don’t know where they get information from but I think Shatta Wale shouldn’t have responded to that video at all. Once his face was not shown, he shouldn’t have responded at all, because it could happen that it was not him. Someone posted [the video], but the way he spoke, it is like he’s accepting the fact that he’s the one who did that. I think that part, I was not happy with him, but honestly what shows it was him…?
“As for bloggers, the way they do things, God will ask them: … ‘Has someone sent them to be bloggers?’ No one has sent them to be bloggers. If you need information, you can do a phone interview and ask me whatever it is and I’ll answer… but you don’t frame up something because you want information, some of them do bad things…”
Akosua Agyapong said some Ghanaian bloggers do not verify any information they get and just run with anything they hear about people once the fellow refuses to comment when contacted.
She, therefore, advised that bloggers crosscheck their facts before publication of any story about anybody, since they risk denting people’s hard-won reputation.
