Some Local Governance experts are accusing government of providing what they describe as “unprofitable developmental projects” in the various districts and municipal assemblies in the country.
The experts believe many supposed developmental project embarking upon by success governments have not yielded any benefit to the constituents.
They however blame the situation on the wide communication gap between the populace and the assemblies and the government at large.
A situation they believe has rendered many completed project not of any use to the public thereby becoming waste to the public purse.
These were statements from some Local Governance Experts at a one day stakeholders’ conference in Kumasi.
It was aimed at deliberating on how to improve local government transparency, accountability and performance at the assemblies levels in the country.
The programme dubbed “Ghana Strengthening Accountability Mechanism” was organized by Care International Ghana and supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Country Director for Care Ghana International, Ambassador Elkanah Odembo says successive governments over the years have been imposing projects on the citizenry for just political expediency.
He is optimistic the country will only have value for money if the citizenry are properly consulted before some projects meant for them are undertaken.
Project Director for the Ghana’s Strengthening Accountability Mechanism-(GSAM) and a Local Governance expert accused the peoples’ representatives both at assemblies and the parliament for championing their own selfish interest.
Clement Nana Tando charged politicians to put first the interest of the masses in their decision making.
