Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has said he has received numerous congratulatory messages after he was nominated for Best International Act-Africa at the 2017 BET Awards and does not need any acknowledgement from Shatta Wale.
Responding to a question by Joy FM’s Doreen Andoh on Tuesday May 23 on whether he had received any message from fellow Ghanaian dancehall act Shatta Wale, the Go Higher hit singer replied: “I don’t need it”
Several artistes have urged the public to see Stonebwoy’s nomination as a nomination for Ghana and vote massively for the only Ghanaian nominee.
Born Livingstone Etse Satekla, the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year said he likes Shatta Wale’s Taking Over and Ayoo tracks.
He believed in unity and asked music fans not to create tension or conflict between Ghanaian artistes.
He was of the view that more Ghanaian musicians should have been shortlisted for this year’s BET Awards though the country managed only one compared to four from Nigeria and South Africa’s three.
He said: “The way things were going, I felt that if we did get a nomination, I wouldn’t be surprised. But I was only thinking that it was going to be more than one Ghanaian artiste, that I was sure about. My instincts were very sure that it was going to be more than one Ghanaian artiste but to our surprise” it wasn’t so.
