Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has disclosed that Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah will be consulted in the appointment of a new technical staff for the Black Stars, although the FA holds the sole right to do so.
The GFA dissolved the previous backroom staff who worked with former coach Avram Grant and are yet to set up a new team with former Ghana internationals Ibrahim Tanko, Stephen Appiah, and Richard Kingston reportedly linked with assistant coach, team manager and goalkeepers’ trainer roles respectively.
Many have questioned the GFA’s decision to make appointments for the new manager but the official spokesman for the association, speaking to Class Sports, said: “We’ll do it in consultation with him but after all, we are the appointing authority, we pay the piper and give the direction of the national team, but he’ll have a say in who becomes a member of his backroom staff.”
Kwesi Appiah officially resumes his second stint with the Black Stars on 1 May with an AFCON 2019 qualifier against Ethiopia and friendly matches with USA and Mexico all in June.
