The Member of Parliament for Asunafo South and former Regional Minister for Brong Ahafo, Eric Opoku, has bemoaned the continuous abandoning of projects by successive governments.
According to him, the practice retards development and leads to financial loss to the state.
His comment comes after it was discovered that the contractor working on the Mankraso stretch of the Kumasi-Sunyani road left a heap of sand on the road and abandoned the project which led to the accident that killed dancehall artiste Ebony.
Speaking to Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM, on Monday, 12 February 2018, he advised that for rampant development, projects should be continued by successive governments because a change in government is only a change in leadership and not a change in developmental agenda.
“Change of government in a democracy means we have only changed leadership. In the constitution we are to continue ongoing projects but over the period governments abandon projects and this is not helpful,” he bemoaned.
With regards to the heap of sand that was left on the road by a contractor, Mr Opoku quizzed, “Why was the contractor not on site? Why were there no safety measures on the site to warn drivers? Did the Ghana Highways Authority ensure that there were safety measures in place to warn motorist of the heap of sand?
