President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he will support the idea of opening the Ghana-Togo border for 24-hours to boost trade and tourism.
He said this on Wednesday, 4 May when he delivered a brief speech at a state dinner held in his honour by Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé where he is on an official two-day working visit.
“I am very much for the 24-hour opening of the borders between our two countries. This will boost trade, tourism, and, then can we reap the economic benefits,” he said.
Mr Akufo-Addo noted that with ECOWAS’ population set to reach some 500 million in 20 years, “there are immense opportunities to bring prosperity to our region with enterprise and creativity”.
Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to depart Togo for Burkina Faso today, Thursday 4 May, as part of the first phase of his tour of countries in the ECOWAS sub-region.
In similar fashion, his visit to Burkina Faso is also aimed at deepening Ghana’s bilateral relations with the Francophone country and also to reiterate Ghana’s full commitment to the ECOWAS project.
