The Management of Zylofon Cash, sponsors of the Ghana Premier League, have indicated they are still committed to sponsoring the league in spite of the scandal involving the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its president, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Halifax-Ansah Addo, Communications Director of Zylofon Cash told Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday, 8 June that: “It is not good news to us. These are very difficult times for Ghana sports but it does not mean we are no longer committed to supporting the development of sports in Ghana. It does not mean that after all these challenges Ghanaians will not be still interested in sports.
“We believe through sports, many people will be employed and that is our [Zylofon Cash] desire that people will gain employment.
“We still have that commitment and our prayer is that the challenges facing the FA will be resolved for the league to commence all over again or continue. No matter what happens, the league still needs a sponsor, there are still deficits they need credits to fill and we are committed to offering that service once these challenges are over.”
Meanwhile, Government says it is taking steps to immediately dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the recently aired video documentary by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, titled: ‘Number 12 When Misconduct and Greed Become the Norm’, which captured widespread corruption in Ghana football.
The documentary exposed gross graft within the GFA characterised by widespread fraud, corruption and bribery.
Government, in a statement signed by Minister of Information, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, said following the involvement of top GFA officials, NSA officials, match commissioners, football administrators and referees in corruption as captured in the undercover piece, it has decided to take immediate steps to have the GFA dissolved.
All officials captured in the corrupt practices have also been referred to the police for further investigation and appropriate action.
