An award scheme will be instituted to reward hardworking teachers and students living in predominantly Muslim settlements across the country, with the best teacher being given a two-bedroom apartment, Alhaji Abubakar Siddique Boniface, Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, has disclosed.
According to him, the move is to attract more teachers into such communities, locally termed Zongos, as part of plans by the Akufo-Addo-led government to transform the life of inhabitants of such settlements.
“I will be introducing the Best Zongo Teacher award and the Best Zongo Student award,” he said on Ghana Yensom on Accra FM on Friday April 7.
“For the best Zongo teacher, the least we will do is to put up a two-bedroom flat for him. It will not just be a gift but other teachers from elite schools would want to come [and teach in the Zongos], so you realise that performance in the Zongos will improve. This is what I want for the Zongo people…”
