The Chief of Agona Kwanyako, Nana Ampim Darko V, is confident of victory for three-time flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in this year’s elections.
According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo’s third attempt at the presidency is a good omen, because, as is enshrined in Ghanaian custom, “one has to go before the gods three times before a request can be granted”.
He made this known when Mr Akufo-Addo called on him at his palace in Agona Kwanyako, in the Agona East constituency, at the commencement of a 5-day campaign tour of the Central Region on Thursday, June 16, 2016.
With Nana Akufo-Addo’s visit to the palace being his third, since 2008, Nana Apim Darko V noted that “there is a saying in our custom that ‘you go before the gods three times’. Thus, when you go before them the third time, they will never fail you. This is because on the two previous occasions, the gods were putting you to the test to determine whether you have faith and patience to be entrusted with what you are requesting for.”
In his view, the NPP flagbearer has “exhibited that faith and patience, and as such power will be entrusted into your hands. This is your third visit to Kwayako, and I am very certain that we will all hear good news this year.”
Nana Ampim Darko V added that “whoever is heading for a battle must not be seen to be wavering. With the kind of support I have seen today for you, from residents of Kwanyako and from NPP members, I am sure it will end in success for you.”
He, however, admonished the leaders of all political parties competing in this year’s elections to urge their supporters to be mindful of their language, and be decorous in their utterances.
“We don’t want any bad language that will bring trouble to Ghana, which will, in the end, affect us all. When you use decorous language, you end up convincing others who are not necessarily members of your party. We only want to hear about policies and programmes of all the parties, and not insults and the use of abusive language,” he said.
