In fulfilment of its promise to support the Korle-Bu Burns Centre during the aftermath of the June 3 Circle disaster, YFM, Ghana’s number one urban youth station, in collaboration with Databank Arkfund, has donated a variety of medical supplies to the centre for the treatment of survivors who were admitted at the facility.
Managing Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcast Unit, Akwasi Agyeman, said, ‘YFM was concerned about the enormity of the fire disaster and the plight of survivors, hence the decision to launch ‘Y Cares’ to support the burns unit treat survivors who were admitted at the facility. YFM is aware of the pressure the burns unit goes through and the fire disaster compounded the challenges, therefore YFM and Databank Arkfund decided to contribute their widow’s mite through these medical supplies to minimise the pressure.’
Mr Agyeman disclosed that an interaction with the Director of the Burns Centre, Dr Opoku-Ware Ampomaah, exposed him to the high cost of treating patients and since the unit is saving lots of lives, many more institutions must support the unit in its activities.
Kojo Addae Mensah, the CEO of Databank said, ‘Databank Arkfund is very much interested in humanitarian projects and therefore found it appropriate to partner YFM to make this project a success.”
He disclosed that Databank and YFM would think of how to further support the unit to help save many more lives.
Director of the Korle Bu Burns Centre, Dr Ampomaah, said the centre has been relying on the benevolence of many institutions after the fire disaster, and it has really minimised the pressure on the centre.
He expressed much gratitude to the two organisations for the gesture.
Y Cares is a fundraising campaign launched in July this year by YFM and Databank Arkfund to lend a helping hand to survivors of the June 3 Circle fire disaster.
