A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Dr Kwame Amoako Tuffour, has said the disciplinary committee of the party in the region had the authority to sanction the party’s chairman in the Kumawu constituency, Joseph Danso.
This is contrary to claims by regional secretary Sam Pyne that the committee did not have that mandate to suspend Mr Danso.
The committee, headed by Dr Tuffour, suspended Mr Danso on Saturday April 22 for threatening President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his choice for Kumawu district chief executive.
He was given the opportunity to apologise when he appeared before the committee but refused.
However, the regional secretary, Mr Pyne, believed the decision taken by the committee was wrong.
But speaking on Accra News on Monday April 24, Dr Tuffour said: “We have suspended him with immediate effect pending the outcome of the meeting Sam Pyne is raising issues with. We members of the committee don’t just go and sit at meetings as if we are some small boys who discuss matters anyhow.
“I am shocked at how Sam Pyne is talking in relation to this matter, as if some small boys met and took this decision. We had the authority to take that decision.”
