President John Mahama has said he would rather lose the December 7, polls than reverse his position on the cancelled teacher trainee allowance.
The cancellation of the trainee allowance was met with massive protests by teacher trainees across the country as they argued the decision leaves them worst off.
Mr. Mahama and his administration have argued that the decision leaves the state with adequate funds to expand educational infrastructure and also improve quality with the needed materials.
But the New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo has criticised the move and promised to restore the allowance if he wins the 2016 elections.
In a tweet Thursday, the President who is currently campaigning in the Central region, said he would not reverse the decision as a matter of principle.
Onthe matter of trainee teacher allowances, better to lose on principle than win using falsehood. We’ll not reverse the decision. #UCC Forum
