Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, has said the Akufo-Addo-led government will speed up work on some of the major roads under construction in the country.
According to him, it is important for the roads under construction to be completed to help avoid some of the road accidents in the country.
He acknowledged that most of the road networks are in deplorable states, a situation he attributed to some of the fatal accidents.
Mr Amoako-Atta was speaking in an interview with Obeng Mensah on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Thursday, 15 February 2018, in connection with the recent accidents that have occurred in the some parts of the country killing several people including musician, Ebony.
“Ghanaians will soon see the speed we’ll adopt in maintaining the roads. As we speak engineers are on most of the roads working. For instance, by March ending, we’ll be commissioning the East Legon to Flower port intersection.
He added: “We closed down the Buipe and Yapei bridges to enable us refurbish it and within four weeks, we were able to complete the work on those bridges and so I want to assure Ghananains that the bad roads will be fixed.”
The Minister further indicated that although most of the roads are bad, some of the road accidents occur as a result of human errors.
He added: “I have a report in my office at the moment which indicates that about 91 per cent of the road accidents are caused by human errors and most of them occur on some of the good roads.
“On the bad roads the drivers drive slowly, the nature of the road serves as a natural caution to the users, that doesn’t mean we prefer bad roads,” he said.
