Head Coach of the female national team, the Black Queens Yussif Basigi has said, the desire to make Ghanaians happy after failing to qualify for the Olympic Games pushed his charges to win Gold at the just ended All Africa Games (AAG) in Congo.
The Queens defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon who denied Ghana qualification to the Olympic Games by a lone goal courtesy Portia Boakye to secure the historic feat.
This ensured Ghana pick two gold medals including Tennis out of the nineteen medals picked by team Ghana at the quadrennial multi- sport tourney.
Basigi told the GNA Sports that ‘‘the feeling is very high because this is the first of its kind. It has never happened in the history of women football in Ghana and we are very grateful. We needed to make Ghanaians happy for not qualifying for the Olympic Games”.
He insisted that, ‘‘the team’s performance has being consistent because looking at Cameroon they have not beaten us convincingly before. It’s either a draw or they win by points but at the finals, we went there to beat them after drawing the first game”.
Basigi who doubles as the Sekondi Hassacas coach noted that, his tactical brilliance at the dying minutes of the game guaranteed Ghana victory over their opponent.
