Officials of the Electoral Commission in the Suhum constituency in the Eastern Region say they fear for their lives following the ransacking of their office by thugs belonging to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The thugs, according to the EC’s District Director, Mensah Worlanyo, stormed the office to yank away a printer.
He said the assailants were in an “NDC-branded car”, adding that their action came after the EC had asked an individual who could not provide certain details needed for a successful transfer of his vote to go back and bring some documents to facilitate the process.
The individual allegedly reported to the NDC’s office in Suhum that the EC officials had refused to transfer his vote. The thugs then drove to the EC’s office to cause mayhem.
Mr Worlanyo told Prince Minkah on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Friday, 23 September, that all the officials are scared for their lives and have refused to open the office until they are given adequate security.
He said the thugs sought refuge at the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive after their vandalism.
