The Black Stars midfielder has refuted claims that he had a bust up with the government official after sharing the spoils with the Cranes on Friday
Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has denied suggestions that he verbally assaulted Ghana’s Youth and Sports minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye after the goalless draw with Uganda in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers at the Tamale Sports Stadium on Friday.
The 26-year-old was reported to have used abusive words on the minister after he questioned the Panathinaikos man why the players bought their own tickets for the Afcon qualifier against Rwanda last month when government opted to use local players for the fixture.
“I don’t know anything about the reports circulating in the media. I never insulted Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye. It is never true and I cannot do that to such an elderly person,” Wakaso told Happy FM.
“It was even the minister who showed me a false story which was circulating on social media in the presence of Asamoah Gyan and Agyeman Badu. He then showed me the response he gave to those peddling such fabricated story. I’m not bothered about it because I know nothing like that happened between me and the minister.”
He added: “After our meeting with the minister, he said that I spoke differently from the way he saw me and even added that I spoke with maturity. So we were both surprised with the story that I insulted the minister after alerting him on what I have read and heard. I know people may not like you at times and will want to tarnish your image but I’m unperturbed and will focus on my career and family.”
Wakaso is expected to travel with Ghana to South Africa to play Bafana Bafana in an international friendly at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on October 11.
