The University of Leicester in the United Kingdom on July 13, 2017 posthumously awarded Major Maxwell Mahama a MSc in Security and Risk Management at the school’s congregation.
The award was received by the late Ghanaian military officer’s mother, Veronica Bamford.
Major Mahama was lynched two months ago by residents of Denkyira-Boase in the Central Region on suspicion of being an armed robber after a snail seller from whom he had bought some of the slimy delicacy raised an alarm after spotting a pistol on him.
The brutal manner in which he was murdered shocked the entire country.
Major Mahama enrolled at the University of Leicester in 2015 as a distant student. Several Ghanaians also graduated at the congregation.
Major Mahama’s mother received a standing ovation and prolonged applause when she was called to receive her son’s degree.
