The Appointments Committee of Ghana’s parliament will investigate thoroughly any petition or allegations levelled against any of the ministerial nominees up before such appointees are either rejected or accepted, James Klutse Avedzi, Deputy Minority Leader in parliament, has said.
The committee will be vetting four nominees today, Friday January 20. Already, a pressure group, Truth and Accountable Governance, has raised issues with some of the nominees, indicating they have been involved in wrongdoing, a situation which makes them unfit for any ministerial appointment.
However, speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday, Mr Avedzi said: “Members of the committee will go further to find out if there are issues against any of the appointees. For instance, if there is a petition against one of them or all of them, the committee will go further to investigate or find out the veracity of this allegation or petition and at the end the committee will write a report to…the House for consideration.
“It is based on the committee’s report that the House will take a decision whether we will accept the nomination or reject it.”
He added: “So, basically, the Minority side of the House will not be doing anything different from what the Majority side will be doing.”
