Vice-president Kwesi Amissah-Arthur will not apologise for saying the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will respond to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s accusations in equal measure as the 7 December elections approach, a presidential staffer at the office of the vice-president, James Agyenim-Boaten, has said.
The vice-president had, at the launch of his party’s Central regional campaign at Agona Swedru, said: “It is the empty vessel that makes the most noise. The NPP has accused the NDC of not achieving anything in government. President Mahama has released the Green Book, our achievements as a government can be seen in that Green Book. While members of the NPP were insulting us, we were working. From now onwards, if they say one, we’ll say two. The NDC’s achievements in government are more than those of the NPP.”
Although Mr Amissah-Arthur has clarified his statement saying what he meant was that if the opposition mentioned one achievement of theirs, the NDC would mention two or more as a counter, particularly as captured in the Green Book, the NPP’s Deputy Communications Director, Mr Anthony Karbo, insists the vice-president must render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and the NPP for being “indecent.”
But speaking to Class News on Friday September 2, Mr Agyenim-Boaten said Mr Amissah-Arthur owed no one an apology.
“There is nothing that the vice-president is going to apologise for. He has made a statement that is fair. If he talks about your record of achievements in office and how our supporters and members should spread the message, what is there to apologise for?” he asked.
