A music lover attending a festival being headlined by Bruno Mars has died in a hit and run incident which injured three others.
A vehicle – described as a white van or mini bus – ploughed into the group close to the famous PinkPop festival in Landgraaf in the Netherlands.
It remains unclear if the incident – which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning – was deliberate or accidental.
Police say they are still looking for both vehicle and driver with officials in Belgium alerted to the possibility they may have crossed the border, reports the Associated Press news agency.
A statement added that Mensheggerweg road where the incident took place – one of two exits from the concert grounds – had been closed for investigation. “The bus is being sought,” it said.
An alert service sent by emergency authorities to cell phones in the area warned people to be alert for a Fiat Doblo with the number 257 as part of its licence plate.
The festival’s official Twitter account confirmed the incident and said organisers were “deeply shocked” and would support the victims and family.
The three-day long PinkPop is attended by tens of thousands of fans every summer. This year’s event had come to an end just hours before with a headline performance from American singer Bruno Mars.
