Ugandan coach Milutin Sredojevic has said he is up for the task to lead his men at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The Cranes are making a return to the continent’s elite football competition after its last appearance in 1978, during which they lost out to hosts Ghana in the finals.
The Cranes recently held the Black Stars to a 0-0 drawn game in Tamale in the first round of qualifiers for the Russia 2018 World Cup and are confident they can do better when the two teams lock horns at the newly built Port Gentil Stadium.
They have been drawn in group D, which also includes Ghana, Egypt, and Mali.
Mr Sredojevic told Class Sports in an interview on Thursday October 20: “We are one small fry in the Cup of Nations group. Also in the AFCON finals meeting with Ghana and Egypt, we are expecting a very tough group. Ghana are finalists of the last AFCON, losing on penalties. Egypt are back after a period away, and Mali have placed third in the last couple of AFCON tournaments. So it is going to be a very tough one for us, but we are determined to do our bests. We have not come this far to blow away this opportunity of selling ourselves to Africa and the world.”
