The Majority Leader and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, Osei Kyei-Menash-Bonsu, has revealed that two more districts are to be created in the Volta and the Northern Regions in addition to the 38 newly created districts to bring the total number of districts to 256.
He said by end of the year, one district would be created out of the Keta Municipality in the Volta Region and another in the Northern Region, adding that President Akufo-Addo’s vision to bring governance to the doorsteps of the people is very commendable.
He said the NPP government is also creating more regions to ensure that development is evenly spread throughout the country so that Ghanaians would have their fair share of the national development.
The Majority Leader, who made this known in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, said more municipalities created out of the two biggest cities in the country, Accra and Kumasi, will definitely help address the numerous development challenges in the two cities in relation to the construction of roads and waste management, among others.
“In Kumasi, the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government created a new municipality for the Asawase constituency, which is the Asokore-Mampong Municipality but under the NPP government we have created five more municipalities out of the Kumasi Metropolitan Area,” he said, stressing that the carving of the Suame Municipality out of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly will definitely help give further impetus to the ‘One District, One Factory’ policy of the government.
According to the Majority Leader, Suame, which has the largest artisanal mechanical experts, would provide the ready mechanical services for all industrial machines for the ‘One District, One Factory.’
He said the government would develop the Suame Magazine and also assist the artisans there.
He said government also intends to explore the vast iron ore deposit in the country for the manufacturing of steel to help the growth of new industries and factories.
“In Suame, two companies have approached me to establish a PVC pipe factory and an ICT hub in the municipality in furtherance of the One District, One Factory’ policy of the government,” he said.
He said with the creation of the new municipality more resources would be committed to the maintenance of the bad roads in Suame which have been the bane of the area.
“We have challenges with our roads and this was clearly articulated by the chiefs during the inauguration of the new municipality,” he said, adding that plans are far advanced for roads such as the Abusuakuruwa-Barekese, Abuahia to Barekese, Brukutu to Kronum (Angel) area and other artillery roads leading to Tafo-Pankrono and Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School to be re-shaped.
He said the chiefs have also secured a large tract of land for the construction of new office building for the Suame Municipal Assembly.
