President John Mahama has officially inaugurated the Trust Sports Emporium at Bukom in the Greater Accra Region as part of his efforts to ensure an infrastructural boost for boxing.
The state-of-the-art boxing arena is located very close to Bukom, which has produced several of Ghana’s boxing talents over the years, but for many decades has lacked a facility to give budding boxers the best training for their professional careers.
The event on Tuesday November 15 saw thousands of supporters in and around the Odododiodio constituency troop to catch a glimpse of the beautiful edifice.
Mr Mahama, while speaking at the event, reassured the people that he will continue his Transformation and Changing Lives agenda.
“We will continue to fulfil our promise of transforming and changing lives in the country. We have now delivered our promise – not a boxing gym, but a sports centre with an international boxing arena here in Bukom.”
The event also witnessed the president awarding some deserving legends in the boxing fraternity. Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Joshua Clottey, Joseph Agbeko, and DK Poison all received citations from the president and some cash packages.
Meanwhile, the full project is yet to be completed with some more work yet to be done.
