An eyewitness has reported that the truck driver, who caused the train crash yesterday, went to look for jerk.
Earlier, the Ministry of Railways Development confirmed the collision of a new DMU train with a stationary vehicle on the Tema Railway line during a site acceptance test.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who has chosen to remain anonymous in an interview on Adom fm monitored by Mubarak Yakubu says the Kia truck was loaded with blocks while heading to offload them via a route where there is a bridge that makes it difficult for the truck to pass under due to its low height.
According to the eyewitness, who was in his farm watching what was going on, after offloading the blocks, the Kia truck couldn’t use the bridge because the car had raised up after offloading the blocks. So, the driver decided to use the railway and cross to the other side.
He explains that the truck couldn’t cross, so they tried parking stones under the car to aid its movement over the railway. However, the truck couldn’t move.
The eyewitness added that the driver left the car and went to look for jerk so that they could move the truck.
He says that just after the driver left, around 12 noon, the train also passed and crashed into the truck.
“I was on the farm when the Kia was loading the blocks. When he got to the bridge, he was struggling to use it, but he managed. After he finished offloading the blocks around 11:30 a.m., he tried to return by using the bridge, but he couldn’t. So, he tried to use the railway, and they used stones to help it cross, but he couldn’t.”
“I was on the farm watching them. The driver left the car and went to look for jerk so they could move the truck.”
“Around 12 noon, after the driver left, we saw the train coming. Since it couldn’t stop easily, we raised our hands, but nothing could be done at that point because it was on a curve. That’s when the train passed and crashed into the truck.”
