Leading members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tolon district in the Northern Region have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to withdraw his District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the area, Hajia Amama Sayibu.
According to them, Hajia Sayibu does not qualify to lead the district as she does not meet the criteria set by the vetting committee for potential MMDCE nominees.
At a news conference in Tolon led by the constituency and polling station executives as well as electoral area coordinators of the party, the party leaders accused the national leadership of the NPP of failing to fulfil their campaign promise to appoint people who suffered for the party in opposition.
Addressing the press, the assistant constituency secretary, Yakubu Abdulla, appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo to reconsider his decision.
“The nominee of the president qualifies only because she is a Ghanaian. She fails with the rest of the guidelines. That is, she does not hail from the area because nobody knows her in the district, she does not vote in the district, she does not demonstrate the qualities of [electability]: that is, she can never win an election in this area, she has never participated in any activities in the district, and, therefore, has no socio-political record in the district. So we are strongly appealing to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to withdraw the nomination of Hajia Amama Sayibu as DCE for Tolon,” he stated.
