We already thought that Black Panther was going to do numbers but what it actually accomplished blows our minds.
According to Forbes, the Marvel and Walt Disney movie earned an insane $192 million between Friday and Sunday and a projected $218 million Friday through Monday holiday opening. It’s the biggest February opening weekend ever, the biggest solo superhero launch, the largest holiday opening (overtaking the $200 million Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did in 2009), the biggest Friday through Monday launch, and the biggest non-sequel launch of all time.
Overall, it’s the fifth-biggest Friday though Sunday opening weekend of all time, trailing The Avengers, Jurassic World, The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens.
The film’s also done $361 million worldwide and that’s not even counting Monday’s holiday numbers in North America or major territories like China and Russia that have yet to open to theaters.
Don’t tell us Black films can’t do numbers!
