A citizen of Ghana, Kwadwo Asante, has petitioned the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to terminate a permit granted to Pioneer Merchant Company Limited to undertake a project on a particular plot of land at CMB, Accra.
According to him, his investigations have revealed that that plot of land has beneath it, a pipeline supplying water to some parts of the capital, therefore, if the company is allowed to go ahead with the project, it will impeded the easy supply of water by the GWCL.
In a petition titled, “Petition to Terminate Permit to Pioneer Merchants Company limited to build on Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) main pipe-line in Accra- CMB”, he said: “I, Kwadwo Asante, a citizen of this country, write to petition against the permit granted to Pioneer Merchant Company Limited to build on Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) pipeline at Accra-CMB in Accra.
“The supposed plot of land has beneath it, a main pipeline belonging to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) which supplies potable water to the citizenry in some parts of the capital city of Accra.
“My checks indicate the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Planning Committee and other departments failed to do due diligence in approving the permit to the above company for the intended projects. This has the tendency of impeding the work of Ghana Water Company Limited if they want to do any maintenance work on the pipe-line.
“In addition, this permit granted will heavily affect potable water supply to the ordinary citizen.
“With these concerns raised, I appeal to your office and committee to immediately terminate and investigate the permit granted to the above company who has been granted permit to do construction works on the land. Counting on your usual cooperation, I hope my petition will be given the needed attention.”
