The Tano South District Assembly of the Brong Ahafo Region has declared war on rising occultism among students in the area.
District Chief Executive (DCE), Bukari Zakari, described as “sad” the rise in occultism among students in the district and said the practice would not be tolerated by the assembly, hence its intention to clamp down on persons involved in it.
Mr Zakari told Accra News that: “We, as a district assembly, will collaborate with headmasters to exorcise the evil spirits inhabiting some students,” he stated.
He blamed television for the problem and urged chiefs and other stakeholders to support the assembly to sanction students caught practising occultism.
“So, what we, the district assembly, together with parents, boards, headmasters, and staff of schools, have decided is to fight the phenomenon…”
“For now, we have heard of one or two incidents. We will continue to keep our ears on the ground…”
According to the DCE, during their visits to schools, they would emphasise the need for students to learn hard and obtain good grades to assure a better future, instead of resorting to occultism to obtain wealth the quick way.
