Relief items have been dispatched to Tamale in the Northern Region for distribution to flood victims, Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Abu Ramadan has said.
Torrential rains caused floods which decimated areas like Sanerigu, Gushegu, Sabooba North, Nanumba, Kariga, and Cherponi.
Bridges were destroyed while some areas completely cut off.
Residents in the affected areas have been left to their fate for the past week after the devastation.
They have been sleeping and defecating outside following their displacement.
Mr Ramadan blamed the delay in mobilising relief support for the residents on huge debts left by the Mahama administration at NADMO.
He said NADMO’s coffers were stripped bare and left with about GHS40million debt, thus the difficulty in sending relief to the needy up north.
Mr Ramadan, however, noted that NADMO has so far been able to mobilise a few resources and relief items were on their way to the flood victims.
